Top Floor Art Gallery and Open Studios are inviting applications for full studio membership. A shared, open studio space will become available in April/May2018.

As a full studio member, the successful applicant will benefit from a package of support including mentoring, opportunity for 1 solo exhibition per year, product selling and workshop facilitation support, subsidized commission rates, promotion via our online platform access to shared studio equipment and resources, use of our workshop space and includes all the benefits of membership of the Top Floor Art Studio Group. The studio space available is approx. 3m x 4.25m. Rent is £100 per month, including utilities and some storage space.

This opportunity is ideal for applied artists, designer/makers, jewellers, mixed media or textile artists keen to expand, enhance or rebalance their practice and explore exhibition, product based and facilitation elements within a supportive gallery setting.

Expressions of interest should be sent by 4pm Friday 16th March 2018 to info@topfloorart.co.uk containing (a) letter of interest outlining your reasons for joining an artist-run space and how you see your practice progressing in the next year (400 words max) and (b) 3 – 5 images of your work (max 1MB per image), or links to your website were your work may be seen.
We hope to begin interviewing end of March 2018.

Artist in Conversation: Diana Copperwhite at dlr LexIcon



In this day-long bookbinding workshop, participants will create a variety of folded books – no stitching required! Starting with the concertina book, we will build up on this binding to create mutant books including a Japanese accordion book, a blizzard book and much more. The objective of this course is to explore the potential of basic book structures, building up on them to create unexpected handmade books.

Participants will also gain knowledge of how to use basic book binding tools and the principals of bookbinding including grain direction, gluing and folding tips.

Participants are encouraged to bring along any ideas or decorative paper that they would like to incorporate into their books.
Participants need to bring: Stanley knife/scalpel, cutting mat, metal ruler, pencil. All other materials will be supplied.

Introduction to Bookbinding Workshop at Galway Arts Centre


A playful day at PrintBlock studio with textile print artist Liz Nilsson. Experiment with different types of materials and techniques to make bold and wild marks. Expect to use unconventional drawing and printing methods, experiment with large scale marks and unusual drawing tools. The outcome of the workshop will be black and white sketches and ideas which can be developed into art pieces or designs at a later stage. The most important outcome of the day will be to relish the process of creativity, and to just to enjoy the moment.

This 6 week beginners class in creative photography is an ideal way to learn how to get the most out of your camera. Each week develops a new photographic skill, with an introduction to contemporary photography and the visual elements you need to improve your images.
This course is the perfect introduction to contemporary digital photography, using visual elements and practical tips to help you make better photographs.
Week 1 – Digital Photo Basics: Intro to photography // Cameras, camera components, lens types // Shutter speed – what are the skills needed to capture movement?
Week 2 – Aperture: Depth of Field // Exploring semi-manual mode
Week 3 – Portraiture: Lighting – how to make the most of lighting conditions // Using aperture to create different portrait styles
Week 4 – Landscape: Composition // How to break down an image into sections
Week 5 – Exposure: Exploring exposure and ISO functions // Achieving correct exposure through shutter speed, aperture and ISO // Using camera in fully manual mode
Week 6 – Re-cap: Review technical and creative skills learned over the previous weeks // Discuss images created over 6 weeks

Course fee: €170 * Deposit of €100 secures your place, with the remainder due on the first night of class.
